had the church built favoring the wish of S. Luigi Guanella also known as Don
Guanella, who was also the parish priest of the church
Don
Guanella always committed himself to helping the poor and the psycho-physical
disabled and he was the founder of the Catholic congregations of the Servi
della Carità (Servants of Charity) and the Figlie di S. Maria della
Divina Provvidenza (Daughters of Our Lady of Divine Providence)
He was
canonized in 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI (2005/13)
