“The geometric and compositional repertoire comes to terms with the tradition of the Roman Baroque style, which Aschieri rereads according to the international scene of the Modern Movement. The intervention of the Studio Passarelli recovers the clarity of the original plan through the demolition of the additions and adapt the structure to the functional new demands” (Giorgio Muratore)

“It is the most complex work built by Aschieri in those years. (...) The area chosen, vaguely rectangular in shape but limited to the south by a bend in the road, had a steep slope. It was these morphological features to suggest a site plan rich in visual perspectives, differentiated because defined by the succession of two distinct elements and set at different heights from the road” (Piero Ostilio Rossi)

Completed in 1952 by Pietro Aschieri (1889/1952), Domenico Bernardini (active 1939/52), Cesare Pascoletti (1898/1986) e Gino Peressutti (1883/1940) for FIAT and donated to the city of Rome to be used as a museum

In the vestibule “Bust of Giovanni Agnelli” by Edoardo Rubino (1871/1954)

FIFTY-NINE ROOMS filled exclusively with beautiful and interesting copies of original sculptures and well done and enlightening models of ancient Roman buildings

There is no original ancient piece but the fact that many of the copies are from originals that are scattered in museums all over the world, makes it unique, complete and perfect from the teaching point of view

This building with its peculiar irregular plan had a considerable influence on the style of the residential buildings in Rome

“In this project the usual elements of his repertoire (splayed windows, round balconies, strong chiaroscuro) combine with a subject very dear to expressionist architecture: the dynamic characterization of the angle. (...) From all of works carried out by Aschieri in those years (...) a sort of 'manner' resulted, a taste, a gusto that characterized a significant part of the production of that period” (Piero Ostilio Rossi)

"A specific feature of the poetry of Pietro Aschieri is, at the end of the twenties, his interest in the value of the 'mass' on which he focuses, thoroughly investigating the possible plastic effects. This is the theme present especially in the Pantanella Pasta Factory in which the 'weight' of the building shell, already evident from the type of finish is accentuated by the deep incisions of the openings, by the inclination of the entrance portal and by the insertion of very light glass surfaces. To this overall effect contributes also the shelter corner that seems to bring out, with its projections, the fullness of the building" (Piero Ostilio Rossi)

One of the best examples of rationalist architecture in Rome

"The overlay of decorative elements is replaced by the careful treatment of the walls and the variable projections of the balconies, creating a close dialogue of the elements. The reformulation of some themes in a modern derivation of the Baroque is featured not only in the articulation of the elevations, but also in the insertion of the spiral staircase in the heart of the building block" (Giorgio Muratore)

"In this work too Aschieri shows his interest for the 'wall' and its possible formal characterizations, here resolved through a double set of concave recessions with elliptical cross-section (a theme that he uses in other projects in the same period) that mark vertically the façades and which are even more marked by the continuous bands of the balconies that, in correspondence of the smaller concavity, are projecting outside with a semicircular loggia. It is a theme that directly quotes the articulations of the baroque masses" (Piero Ostilio Rossi)
