St. JAMES IN SETTIGNANO

S. GIACOMO IN SETTIGNANO
Known since the eleventh century
It is also known as S. GIACOMO ALLA LUNGARA
The name Settignano comes from the nearby Porta Settimiana

BELL TOWER
Built in the thirteenth century
It's the only old bell tower with a single window in Rome
Completely renovated in 1643 by Luigi Arrigucci (1575/after 1643) for Cardinal Francesco Barberini
Restored in 1901
Near this church a miracle of S. Francesca Romana happened: she healed a poor sick woman named Angiolella
In the presbytery on the right remarkable “Funerary monument of Ippolito Merenda”, consistorial lawyer, about 1640/41 designed and created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598/1680)

MAIN ALTAR
Altarpiece “St. James” maybe by Giovanni Francesco Romanelli (1610/62) from Viterbo, a pupil of Pietro da Cortona
