The ancient
city of Nomentum was in the present urban
area of CASALI, 1.5 km (0.9 miles) from Mentana
After being
conquered by Lucius Tarquinius Priscus, the city rebelled twice to the Romans
until it was finally subdued in 338 BC
It is
located less than 1 km southeast of the small town of Conventino nearby where the Battle
of Mentana took place in 1867 between 4,700 soldiers led by Garibaldi and
12,000 between French and Church State soldiers
