BASILICA OF St. MARY OF THE LITTLE ARCH

CAPPELLA DELLA MADONNA DELL'ARCHETTO
1851 Virginio Vespignani (1808/82) for Alessandro and Caterina Papazzurri to preserve an ancient image of the Virgin Mary formerly venerated under an arch nearby the palace of the marquis and marquess
The official name of the chapel is S. MARIA CAUSA NOSTRAE LAETITIAE
It is probably the smallest church in Rome
ALTAR
"Madonna causa nostrae letitiae" 1690 by Domenico Maria Muratori (1661/1742) on tiled stone. On July 9, 1796, many witnesses saw this picture of the Madonna rolling her eyes
DOME
Frescoes in the middle "Immaculate Conception", in the spandrels "Innocence, Wisdom, Prudence and Fortitude" 1851 by Costantino Brumidi. He later went to Washington and painted for 25 years on Capitol Hill
Costantini Brumidi was generously described by Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of U.S. House of Representatives, as "Our Michelangelo"
