CATACOMB OF THE MOST HOLY ANNUNCIATION

CATACOMBA DELL'ANNUNZIATELLA
Near the neighborhood known as Roma 70
In the catacomb there isn't any venerated burial of saints
Above ground LARGE CEMETERY with different chronological phases starting even from the early Roman republic
At the end of the main gallery CUBICULUM WITH SCENE OF THE JUDGEMENT DAY in the vault and other paintings of the second half of the third century

Church of the Most Holy Annunciation
Above the catacomb
Consecrated in 1220 by Honorius III Savelli (1216/27)
It is the oldest church in Rome dedicated to the Annunciation from which the catacomb was named
Annunziatella is a diminutive for Annunziata referring to the small size of the church
It was abandoned at the end of the seventeenth century and it was consecrated again in 1935
