CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF COROMOTO

CHIESA DI NOSTRA SIGNORA DI COROMOTO
1976/78 Massimo Battaglini
Built with the help of Italian-Venezuelans
Venezuelan National Church
"The light, which penetrates from the sides and from above, is drawn to the sacred space, giving it a mystical character, in which the faithful can find a quiet place of prayer, even among the buildings of the chaotic surroundings" (Web Site www.architettiroma.it)
Coromoto is the name of the Indian chief to whom Our Lady appeared in 1652 at Guanare town, 360 km (224 miles) from Caracas
It is the only case of an appearance of the Virgin Mary that doesn't take its name from the place of the appearance but from the name of the person to whom she appeared
