MONUMENTAL COMPLEX OF JESUS GOOD SHEPHERD

COMPLESSO DEL GESÙ BUON PASTORE
1930 Armando Brasini (1879/1965)
Formerly headquarters of the Nuns of Our Lady of Mercy of the Good Shepherd. Then it was transformed in a hospital with church attached and, since 1969, it is a school
"The important thing is not the discovery of Borromini (there are also many influences from Bernini in the Buon Pastore), but the courage to continue the Baroque research investigating the broken paths and showing a ruthlessness totally absent from the preceding and contemporary 'barocchetto' (small baroque) that was spread in Rome since the twenties" (Paolo Portoghesi)
Armando Brasini expressed here his remarkable, flamboyant and extravagant monumentalism, influenced at the same time by Donato Bramante and Francesco Borromini
In the seventies there was a structural failure and it was sadly mutilated of some high spires that could have been restored instead
