PONTIFICAL IRISH COLLEGE

COLLEGIO PONTIFICIO IRLANDESE
1925/26 Giuseppe Momo (1875/1940) for Pius XI Ratti (1922/39)
LOGGIA ON THE GROUND FLOOR
"Monument to Daniel O'Connell Irish patriot (1775/1847)" 1855 by Giovanni Maria Benzoni (1799/1873). Inside the monument Daniel O'Connell's heart is kept. The monument was originally located in S. Maria dei Goti (St. Mary of the Goths) which housed Irish clergy for ninety years, from 1836 to 1926
CHAPEL OF ALL IRISH SAINTS
"Crucifixion" about 1642/47, a really beautiful copy from the Guido Reni original in S. Lorenzo in Lucina. It is contemporary with the original and some say it was painted by Reni himself
In the APSE fresco "History of the Irish church" 1953 by Bernard McDonagh (1924)
