St. MALO

S. MACUTO
Originally built in the twelfth century
It belonged at first to the Dominicans and then, from 1539, to the Bergamo Congregation of Rome
They changed the name of the church in Sts. Bartholomew and Alexander, and had it rebuilt in the years 1577/85 by Francesco Capriani aka Francesco da Volterra (1535/94)
In 1726 the church passed to the Jesuits who gave it the name of S. Macuto (St. Malo)
It is the only church in Italy dedicated to the holy Breton bishop of the seventh century

FAƇADE
Completed in 1560 by Giovanni Alberto de Galvani from Ferrara, even if the upper part is by Francesco da Volterra excluding the projecting pediment added later

ALTAR ON THE RIGHT
“Glory of St. Joseph”

MAIN ALTAR
“Mary appearing to St. Malo”

ALTAR ON THE LEFT
“Sacred Heart adored by Sts. John of Nepomuk and Luigi Gonzaga”
All three paintings by Michelangelo Cerruti (1663/1748), painter who opposed the corporate hegemony exercised in Rome by the Academy of St. Luke in the first half of the eighteenth century
