FOUNTAIN OF FURBA GATE

FONTANA DI PORTA FURBA
1586 Domenico Fontana (1543/1607) for Sixtus V Peretti (1585/90)
Rebuilt in 1733 by Felice Passerino for Clement XII Corsini (1730/40)
Popular tradition has it that the name comes from the Latin fur, thief, referring to the robbers who robbed passersby here, but it is more likely a corruption from the Latin forma, a word which meant aqueduct in the Middle Ages
