FONTANE RIONALI DI PIETRO LOMBARDI
1926/29 Pietro Lombardi (1894/1984) former collaborator of Marcello Piacentini
After his success with the FONTANA DELLE ANFORE (Fountain of the Amphoras) now in Piazza dell'Emporio in the Testaccio district, other eight were commissioned to him to symbolically represent various districts of Rome:
FONTANA DELLE TIARE (Fountain of the tiaras) in Largo del Colonnato, Passetto di Borgo, with papal symbols
FONTANA DEI LIBRI (Fountain of books) in Via Staderari near the Palazzo della Sapienza, with books and the deer symbol representative of the nearby church of S. Eustachius
FONTANA DELLA PIGNA (Fountain of the pine cone) in Piazza San Marco, from the huge bronze pine cone symbol of the district now in the courtyard of the Vatican bearing its name
FONTANA DELLE PALLE DI CANNONE (Fountain of the cannonballs) in Via di Porta Castello
FONTANA DELLA BOTTE (Fountain of the barrel) in Via della Cisterna, symbol of the many taverns in the area
FONTANA DEI MONTI (Fountain of the mountains) in Via di S. Vito. It reproduces the three hills originally included in the district: Esquiline, Celius and Viminal
FONTANA DELLE ARTI (Fountain of arts) in Via Margutta, with a bucket of brushes symbol of artists active in the street
FONTANA DEL TIMONE (Rudder fountain) by the former Porto di Ripa Grande, behind the complex of S. Michael
