FOUNTAIN OF PIAZZA CAMPITELLI

FONTANA DI PIAZZA CAMPITELLI
1589 project by Giacomo Della Porta (1533/1602) carried out by Pompilio De Benedetti for the wealthiest families in the area (Capizucchi, Albertoni, Muti and Ricci) with their coats of arms represented in the base of the fountain
It was restored in 1927 and in 1993. The water comes from the Aqua Felix aqueduct
It was originally in the center of the square, opposite the church, but it was moved in 1680 so as not to disturb the Masses at St. Maria in Campitelli by those who gathered around the fountain
